Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled
2008 Project for "The Wall"
9ft x 23 ft
This installation was created at the entrance to the School of the Art Institute's Columbus Building from September 2008 – December 2008.

A string coated with powdered charcoal is repeatedly snapped against a wall, creating 4,146 lines radiating outward from a single nail. The number of lines corresponds to the number of American soldiers killed since the US invasion of Iraq on March 20, 2003. The slumping volume of spent string suggests a figure, or could evoke the unknown number Iraqi Security Forces and civilian deaths that have also occurred since that date.
